The Birth of MC 932
In 1999, a French company called Sagem released a new feature phone called the MC 932. It may seem primitive compared to today's devices, but back then, it was considered a cutting-edge device. At just 117g and 18mm thickness, it was a compact and lightweight phone that could easily fit in your pocket.
Basic Features
The MC 932 may not have a fancy operating system, but it gets the job done. It is a feature phone, meaning its main function is to make and receive calls. It operates on a GSM network and supports 900 and 1800 bands. However, it does not have GPRS or EDGE capabilities, so browsing the internet was not an option.
The phone has a simple monochrome graphic display with fixed icons and can show up to 7 lines of text. It also has softkeys for easy navigation. In terms of storage, there is no card slot, but the phone can store up to 100 contacts in its phonebook and 20 short messages.
No Frills, Only Necessities
One of the most significant differences between the MC 932 and modern devices is its lack of a camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or even a radio. All it offers are essential features like SMS messaging, alarm, clock, calculator, currency converter, and a few pre-installed games. It does, however, have a loudspeaker and can play monophonic ringtones.
Battery Life That Lasts
The MC 932 runs on a removable Li-Ion battery, which was quite impressive for its time. It has a standby time of up to 150 hours and three hours of talk time. But back then, this was considered reasonable, as smartphones nowadays have significantly shorter battery life.

The MC 932 may no longer be available on the market, but it will always hold a special place in the history of technology. It was a sturdy and reliable device that served its purpose well. And though today's devices may have more features and capabilities, sometimes it's nice to remember where it all started.
