MIO A501: An Overview of Mitac's Cancelled Device
Mitac, a well-known brand in the world of technology, had announced the release of their latest device in 2007, the MIO A501. The company had high hopes for this device as it boasted impressive specifications and features for its time. However, due to reasons unknown, the device was eventually cancelled. Dimensions and Storage
The MIO A501 weighed 135g, making it a relatively lightweight device for its time. Its thickness of 20.7mm added to its slim and sleek design. This device also had a storage capacity of 256MB with an additional 64MB RAM and featured an SD/MMC slot for expandable storage options.
Network and Launch Details
The MIO A501 was released during the last quarter of 2007 and was set to support GSM technology with 2G bands of GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900. It also had GPRS and EDGE capabilities, supporting Class 10 for both.
Display and Platform
The device boasted a 2.7-inch TFT resistive touchscreen with 256K colors and a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, giving it a 4:3 ratio and a pixel density of 148 ppi. It also featured handwriting recognition and a 5-way joystick for user-friendly navigation. The MIO A501 ran on Windows Mobile 5 AKU3.3, with a TI OMAP 850 chipset and a 200 MHz ARM926EJ-S CPU.
Memory and Camera
The internal storage of the MIO A501 could be expanded with the help of an SD/MMC card. It also had a main camera of 2 MP with LED flash and the ability to record videos. However, there was no front-facing camera for taking selfies.
Sound and Communication
The device had loudspeaker capabilities and supported vibration alerts along with downloadable polyphonic and MP3 ringtones. It did not have a 3.5mm jack, but it did come with a car antenna connector. The MIO A501 had Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP functionality for wireless connectivity, as well as GPS with a SiRF Star III chipset. However, it did not support WLAN or have a radio.

The device came with useful features such as a web browser, organizer, pocket office, and e-viewer. It also had Mio Menu, a customized Today screen, and voice memo and dial options. The MIO A501 had a 1050 mAh removable Li-Ion battery which provided up to 200 hours of standby time and up to 4.5 hours of talk time.

The MIO A501 was only available in gray and had a price tag of 210 EUR. Despite its promising features and specifications, the device was ultimately cancelled and did not make it to the market.
